Resources

APPLE Schools aim to make the healthy choice the easy choice by changing the school environments. We help to create and sustain supportive physical and social environments that foster lifelong health and learning. Home, school, and community work together to improve a child's health. We involve parents, students, staff, and community stakeholders to impact students' knowledge, skills, attitudes, and behaviours.

One school health facilitator is assigned to each APPLE School. Facilitators engage all stakeholders within the school community to identify current policies and programs that support healthy eating and active living choices for students. In addition, they help school communities identify barriers that prevent students from making healthy choices.

A variety of strategies to engage parents, students and staff are being implemented. For example, bulletin boards focused on healthy lifestyles are in every school. New and creative physical activities and nutrition resources and ideas have been shared with staff members. In addition, all schools have activities to reward students for bringing healthy lunches.
